Halloween Houses

There are definitely perks to marrying an artist! 

And my Halloween Houses are certainly one of those times! :) 

My husband helped this creative idea come to fruition; I cannot claim the artistry here.

I had the idea awhile back to make a house and the middle one on the shelf is the first one built. Compared to the others, it's a little less refined, but nonetheless has a wanted place in my village. (I'm pretty sure I had more of a hand in creating this one, thus the crudeness... haha!)

                        

The Cape Cod style haunted house was designed from a pattern designed on the computer and then cut out of black foam board. The dormers were created by hand (and I think perhaps the chimneys, too.) The second house (the 'Spooky House") was also designed on the computer and inspired from a photo found online.

                   

                   

The cut out windows have orange tissue paper secured inside the hollow bottoms of the houses. This year (as well as last, I think - because it is brighter and easier to turn on and off) I have put a string of Christmas lights underneath them to illuminate them at night. My favorite view!! It's fun with our girls to say (when the lights are on), "The Ghosts are Home!" :)

The accent trees are from various places: a piece from a tree from my front yard, a weed I found in my neighborhood and a tumbleweed! Also, there are two modern-type trees... from Urban Outfitters. ((or one is from Ikea???--not sure))

The "fencing" is new this year for the village, as I believe I put them out last year for Thanksgiving decor. They are just recycled pieces from Ikea dining room chairs that had lived out their useful lives. (The way some Ikea stuff does, ugh! )
